About this speaker
Angus Clarke is a clinical geneticist who works in Cardiff University and the medical genetics service in Wales. He became involved with Rett syndrome when working in paediatric neurology and genetics in Newcastle in 1987-88 and then moved to Cardiff, where he has worked since 1989. He has been associated with Rett UK for a long time (from when it was called RSAUK) and has been engaged over the years in several research projects into Rett syndrome and some of the related disorders (e.g. CDKL5 and FOXG1 disease). He took over the British Isles Rett Syndrome Survey when Dr Alison Kerr retired and continued that until funding was discontinued. He has coordinated a multidisciplinary Rett Syndrome Clinic since 2003, with support from Rett UK.
Angus also teaches students of medicine and of genetic counselling and has conducted research into some other conditions (such as ectodermal dysplasia) as well as newborn screening and some of the social and ethical issues raised by human and medical genetics.
